Designers - Alguacil & Perkoff

Alguacil & Perkoff are developing a mirror collection that aims at expanding the creative process, which is often mainly focused on the frame, onto the mirror surface itself. They draw their inspiration from the incredible processing techniques today available to experiment with patterns, colours and textures on mirror surfaces.

Spanish designer Jose Luis Alguacil Rodriguez, co-founder of Alguacil & Perkoff, says: ‘I have been fascinated by patterns all my life. I draw patterns on paper using ink pens all the time. Objects, nature and even people around me all potentially spark a vision that I will turn into a pattern.

Working with mirrors was totally accidental but somehow wonderfully suits my vision of design. The work of incredibly talented glass and mirror processors truly inspired me, and I found in mirrors and their ability to be back-illuminated a perfect medium to bring my patterns to life.

The back-illumination of mirrors such as the AP’s Sunrise™ enables a unique duality where the mirror reveals different and even contrasting aesthetics at different times, thereby offering a variation in the way it is experienced and in the mood and ambiance it creates.’
